Transitional Dressing From Winter to Spring + Style With a Smile Link Up

Choosing weather-appropriate clothing at this time of year is like trying to hit a moving target; one minute it’s sunny, the next it’s raining. You have to be prepared for the frequent changes, and the way to do that is with layering. I’ve picked out my favourite items from Very‘s Spring range that make transitional dressing from Winter to Spring easy and stylish.

Transitional dressing from Winter to Spring

This first outfit encompasses both smart and casual elements that make it really versatile. I’ve teamed a Ponte blazer* from Monsoon with a thin roll neck jumper, satin utility trousers and gold trainers. Ponte is a soft, stretchy, knitted fabric that holds its shape and doesn’t crease easily. This berry red shade is very popular at the moment and I’m looking forward to wearing it more with different outfit combinations. It would look great with bright red and pink for a tonal colour palette (which you can see in my bag strap).

Having never owned a quilted gilet before I’m now convinced it’s an essential piece for transitional dressing from Winter to Spring!

I love the berry tone jacket with this olive green quilted gilet, which is ideal for throwing on over any outfit when you want an extra layer but not the bulk of a big coat. I often get cold legs, especially when it’s windy, so the long length is great for keeping out the chill. This gilet is from Long Tall Sally, a brand that caters for women over 5’8″. I’m 5’8″ so it’s almost maxi length on me, but I really like that. The deep pockets are very useful and I know I’ll be wearing it lots over the coming months. Reversible waterproof raincoat

No Spring wardrobe is complete without a waterproof coat! I tested this reversible raincoat from Seasalt Cornwall out in the inclement Salford weather at the weekend. It was exactly what I needed, and looking at the forecast, I’ll be wearing it for the rest of the week! I’m a bit obsessed with reversible jackets and coats (I wear the navy one featured in this post a lot). I love being able to switch from yellow to navy…and both sides have pockets too!

Don’t be afraid to size up with a raincoat – you want the option of wearing a thicker jumper underneath when it’s really cold. I’m a size 10/12 but ordered a 12 for extra layering room.

Reversible quilted jacket

A lightweight reversible jacket that’s perfect for travelling

And the reversible theme continues with this snuggly soft, quilted jacket from White Stuff. The sunny yellow shade is a reminder of better weather to come, which I’ve repeated with my jumper and hat. This jacket would be perfect for travelling as it’s lightweight but not too thin. And of course, having essentially two jackets in one is incredibly useful.

I remembered that I have some ankle boots that are similar to the patterned side of the jacket, which “bookends” the outfit. The golden yellow jumper and black trousers work with the jacket both ways. I plan on mixing and matching with these outfits for different styling options. For example, I could swap the berry jacket in the first outfit for this one; the yellow would contrast beautifully with the olive green. This jacket would also work really well with tracksuit bottoms for a more casual look. The options are endless…especially with a reversible jacket!

Which look is your favourite? Do you have any reversible jackets or coats?
