Kimono My House – July’s Style Not Age Challenge

It’s the last Monday of the month, which means it’s time for July’s Style Not Age challenge. It was Gail’s turn to set the theme and she chose “Kimono My House”. Kimonos do not feature heavily in my wardrobe, in fact I only have a sequin kimono, a fringed beach cover up and this cropped jacket. Well, actually, I have a Frida Kahlo print kimono robe, but that’s more of a dressing gown, rather than outer wear.

Even though I don’t wear this kimono jacket much, it’s a useful summer cover up and great for taking on holiday

I wore this jacket and trousers together last year for the Thrifty Six Tropical Paradise theme. On that occasion, I also paired it with these yellow trousers. Even though I don’t wear this kimono jacket much, it’s a useful summer cover up and great for taking on holiday (as seen here in Funchal). I’ve layered it over a bright blue vest that I bought on my last trip to Funchal (from my favourite shop!). It has pretty flower embellishments that really elevate it from a basic ribbed vest.

I’ve picked out the tan in the print of the jacket with my bag (which has a little leopard print for a pattern clash) and shoes. I bought these shoes in a charity shop last year for just a few pounds but this is the first time I’ve worn them. They have a medium height heel and slingback adjustable strap so they’re just about comfortable enough for me. I added the fun sunglasses rather than my blue ones which would have been the obvious choice. Switching up accessories and base layer gives you more mileage from an outfit.

Now it’s time to see how my blogger friends interpreted the theme of “Kimono My House”…

Gail is wearing a pretty floral print kimono from John Lewis with metallic blue sandals, M&S white chinos and a top from Kettlewell. Head over to Is This Mutton? for all the details.

Hilda has teamed a kimono with wide leg trousers (both old) with some fab white shoes from Asos. Stop by her blog Over the Hilda to find out more

Like me, Anna didn’t have a wealth of choice for this theme, so she is wearing a gorgeous linen overshirt as a kimono with linen trousers – both new, from Number 36 boutique in Penzance. Head to Anna’s Island Style to read all about it.

Jacqui has teamed white wide leg trousers – which were a present from the kids – with a cropped top from Primark and a gifted lace coverup/kimono from a good friend. Stop by Mummabstylish to catch up with Jacqui.

We’ll be back on the last Monday of August with our next challenge…the new season will be upon us by then! Are you a fan of kimonos? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
