Denim…But Not Jeans – March Style Not Age

I’m stepping back to the 80s for today’s outfit! When Jacqui chose the theme of Denim…But Not Jeans for this month’s Style Not Age post I immediately thought of my customised jacket and my two denim dresses. As I’ve already worn the jacket for a previous Style Not Age challenge and the other vintage denim dress for a Stylish Monday post, I decided to give this one a spin.

I bought both denim dresses within a short space of time during lockdown. (I had obviously disappeared down a vintage denim rabbit hole!) In fact I bought the other one first, then saw this one and was wowed by the embellishments and acid wash. It’s by a brand called St. Denis, which you can still find on resale sites. There’s currently a dress similar to this one on eBay for £154.99! I think I paid about £30 so I obviously got a bargain!

Anything in denim is a good investment

Denim skirts and dresses are really on trend for Spring so there are plenty of affordable options on the high street (I love this Western style belted midi dress). Anything in denim is a good investment because it’s a hard wearing fabric and even if a particular style or finish goes out of fashion, you just need to hang on to it because it will be back in fashion before too long!

To pick up on the silver studs and snake print star embellishments, I teamed the dress with silver sparkly boots and a snake print clutch bag. Pete bought me the bag for Christmas years ago. It’s from a brand called Rodo which I’ve never heard of since, but they appear to still be trading.

The boots are quite old now but always great for blinging up an outfit! In keeping with the 80s aesthetic, I’ve added some resin earrings. (Who else remembers those cheap plastic earrings back in the day? I had them in every colour!) A sparkly cocktail ring and big sunglasses finished off the look.

Now let’s see how my blogger friends approached the Denim…But Not Jeans challenge!

Jacqui of Mummabstylish is wearing a New Look denim maxi that she eventually found on eBay after it sold out. She has teamed it with a pretty yellow blouse from Marks & Spencer. What a lovely colour combination!

Hilda confessed that she was stumped for this challenge. Initially she was looking for a dress or skirt but couldn’t find anything locally. Eventually Hilda found this jacket in Primark and paired it with jeans for a double denim look. Find out all the details at Over the Hilda.

Anna also chose a denim jacket that she dressed with brooches a few years ago…and has kept them on since. Well it does look fabulous, so why not? The checked trousers and white cowboy boots are both from Topshop and the sweater is an old one from Primark. Head over to Anna’s Island Style for more.

Gail is wearing a fabulous denim maxi dress from Asos with white Russell & Bromley boots and an orange belt from Kettlewell. Visit Is This Mutton? to find out more.

That’s all for this month…we’ll be back on the last Monday of April with another fun theme!
