Hot Pink and Emerald Green + Style With a Smile Link Up

How’s your week going so far? I always find January the toughest month – it feels way longer than 31 days! The weather has been dreadful, so rainy and grey. This is when colourful clothes come to the rescue! You’ve probably heard of the term “dopamine dressing”, which refers to actively choosing to wear clothes that bring us joy and boosts confidence. I’ve been employing this tactic for years, and colour plays a huge part in how I choose my outfits.

Maybe the combination of hot pink and emerald green reveals something about my frame of mind that day

When it came to putting this outfit together I just let my mood guide me to these colours. Maybe the combination of hot pink and emerald green reveals something about my frame of mind that day. The dominant colour pink is associated with optimism, playfulness and compassion, while green is thought to be calming and promote balance. We all need that in the depths of winter, don’t we?

Although the jacket and trousers are different textures they are a good colour match. I bought these trousers in the H&M sale (currently reduced to only £8) and immediately noticed that they are almost the same shade as this Pom Amsterdam jacket. I have five other jackets by Pom Amsterdam, they are so well made made with lots of beautiful details. This one is preloved, from Thrift+ – where I also bought this Scotch & Soda suit from…I have a thing for Dutch brands!

I don’t know if I did it consciously or not, but I’d hung the jacket over this green frilly blouse. Straight away I knew I wanted to wear them together. All I needed to do was select accessories, and instead of opting for a third colour I decided to colour block with the green and pink. I remembered I had this vintage hat stored away which matches the blouse perfectly (and disguises a bad hair day). My green quilted bag, pink glitter boots and pink jewellery completed the look.

Do you wear bright clothes to beat the January blues too?
