The Thrifty Six in Wintergreen

The Thrifty Six in Wintergreen is our final instalment of the year. 2024 has flown by! With winter solstice only a few days away, this is the darkest time of the year. The lack of sunlight is challenging for me, and many others, I know. I find wearing green in the depths of winter uplifting and calming. It reminds me that spring is not too far away, and soon we will see those first new shoots. Well, actually I think the seasons have become less defined due to climate change, so who knows what will bloom and when!

My coat is an old one, bought on eBay years ago

According to iColorpalette, wintergreen covers a range of shades from very light to deep green. I have a lot of green in my wardrobe, but surprisingly, not much of it is second hand. My coat is an old one, bought on eBay years ago. It’s probably more of a spring coat as it’s not very thick, but fine with a jumper underneath. It’s roomy enough to layer up when I need to. I didn’t have a lot of time to think about this outfit, so I kept the colour palette simple: green, black and white. These palazzo style jeans are the black version of the blue ones (seen here) that are currently my favourites. Unfortunately, these come up larger than the blue jeans and the crotch hangs too low, which I find irritating. So I will have to return them. Never mind, black is not really my colour anyway!

Sally of Within a World of My Own

“I love every shade of green in winter, but for a December outfit, I chose olive and sage greens with black and a pop of red. I can wear this thrifted black-and-olive leaf print dress in every season of the year, depending on how I layer it. The thrifted scarf is an amazing woven pattern with red, bright pink, orange, black, dark blue, and green tones that blend together beautifully.”

Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style

“Ain’t this a colourful outfit for me! I love the pink jacket with the red boots. And although I am totally not a fan of red and green together, too Christmassy, it works somehow in this look. And you all know how I love black but I never wear these preloved trousers with black. Only with red, pink or yellow. So you could say these are my out of the box trousers. It even has some embroidery on the left pocket.”

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style

“I believe in the power of the color green and had the 3 of us from my crew show different concepts of how to wear it. I am using it as a pop of color in my monochromatic outfit. Everything except my eyeglasses and lace Halftee (under the sweater) is thrifted or preloved.”

Jane of Preloved-Vintage-Handmade

“The T6 theme for December is ‘Wintergreen’; a beautiful shade of green, somewhere between teal, peacock and pine…
…it’s a rich jewel colour with a distinct festive feel, perfect for a special Christmas Day outfit!
I found this vision in velvet at a Kilo Sale way back in January; it was love at first sight and I knew it would be my Christmas Day dress…
Soft velvet radiates light, gold trims bring opulence and the exquisite neck piece looks like it’s part of the dress…
I can’t wait to step out on Christmas morning – I hope the day is as bright and fresh as this dress!”

Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge

“I found this wintergreen duster style top with brown squiggles on a summertime thrifting adventure. I’d never had the chance to wear it before the cold weather arrived, but I was able to style this lightweight top for winter with some creative layering. I added preloved boots, a necklace, scarf, and earrings in various shades of brown and green to create a cool color combination that really stands out in the snow.”
